When confrontations put Allie in danger, Razz and Allie head toward home and right into the path of a tornado. To survive the horror and destruction that follow the storm, she must find her inner strength.

Los padres de Allie peleaban otra vez.

Allie dio un portazo, se metió en la cama y miró fijamente al techo de su cuarto. Son solamente las ocho de la mañana y ya empezaron, pensó. Trató de bloquearlas, pero las duras palabras viajaban escaleras arriba y atravesaban la puerta. Su madre era una chillona. Mientras más se enojaba, más aguda era su voz. Su padre, en cambio, tenía una voz grave y, durante la discusión, el vozarrón se hacía más fuerte y su cara adquiría una expresión de dolor.

Peleaban por causa de Allie, otra vez. La misma vieja historia. La madre decía que el padre era muy blandito y dejaba que Allie hiciera lo que le viniera en gana. Después de que chillaba por un buen rato, el padre le decía que ella era muy dura y que tenía que ceder un poco. Dale que te dale, pensó Allie desde su cama. Me pregunto qué dirían si supieran el lío en que estoy metida ahora. Allie saltó de la cama y se dejó caer en una silla junto a la mesa de su cuarto. Se tapó los oídos con las manos y se dijo: ¡Paren! ¡Dejen ya de pelear!

Vio el reporte de la escuela que estaba sobre el desorden que tenía en la mesa. Hizo una mueca de desagrado al abrir la pequeña libreta amarilla. Tenía tres círculos rojos: tres asignaturas suspendidas. El año pasado había estado entre las mejores de la clase, pero este año, desde que empezó a salir con Jack, sus calificaciones habían sufrido. Antes la llamaban Cerebrito.

Faced with three overwhelming events all at the same time: pregnancy, fighting parents, and poor grades, Allie runs away. She accompanies her friend Razz who happens to be the national skateboarding champion. After winning a tournament, Razz has to return home to do a television interview with his rival, Slammer. On the way home, they see, and are almost caught up in, a tornado. The rest of the story revolves around death, heroism, destruction, and reunification. The reading level is middle school aged, but deals with mature themes, making this a book aimed at teens. The narrative is based on a true story of when tornadoes touched down in Ontario. Teens will like the book because it contains themes that they can relate to. This book will be of high interest, but with an easy reading level which will be especially good for students that are struggling with their reading. Recommended for schools and libraries, especially ones where tornadic activity is likely to occur.
