This was another tearjerker by Nicholas Sparks, and man it did not disappoint. I found A Walk to Remember to be a very quick read, taking me less than two hours to finish, but not the best of all of his. Either way, it was still a good, quick read that I would recommend to anyone who wants a TFIOS sort of story.
The novel was set in the 50s, and did not disappoint in the slow build of a romance I expect from Nicholas Sparks. His view into the love life of two teenagers and their slow build of a relationship was very beautiful and well written. I would have liked a little more action to happen other than just watching a play being made, but it was still very good!
Overall, it was not my favorite book nor did it keep me very interested. The fact that it was short and sweet made it very easy to read.
Three out of five stars, due to lack of action/entertainment. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

Have this tissues read!
This story is so heartwarming yet gut wrenching at the same time!
Yes I’ve seen the movie and while it was a great modern adaptation, the book is so much better. This is the first Nicholas Sparks novel I’ve read and I’m just so sorry it’s taken me so long to read him.
He weaved a beautiful story and I could so easily picture everything unfolding in my mind. This is a great love story for the ages. The lessons given are timeless as is the love of Jamie and Landon. This is the type of love that I think most of us strive for. That selfless, never-ending kind of love. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

It's a relief to read a book I can rate highly (I've had a few duds lately). A friend sent me this book in a box of books. I've read other Nicholas Sparks books in the past.
I ended up liking Landon more than I thought I would at the beginning of the book. His character really grows in the course of the book. He starts off as a 17 year old who's more concerned with appearance than substance.
Jamie comes across as almost too good to be true, but she's so sweet. If it were real life, I'd say God gave her the understanding of "an older soul" because she seems to understand many life lessons that her peers haven't yet grasped.
I liked that passages from the Bible were included and that reading the Bible was one of the things that Landon and Jamie did together. I also like that Landon didn't abandon their relationship when things got tough, and that the town (or at least church) rallied behind Jamie after she and her father shared their news. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

I know it's been said before, but this is way better than the movie. Again, early Nicholas Sparks had this thing about him that I was drawn to his writing. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

Nicholas Sparks has done it again. I've only read two of his books, but both of them broke my heart. I faintly remember watching the film with my mom when I was little, so I really wanted to read the book. I knew it would be an emotional ride, but I still wasn't expecting to cry as much as I did.
Landon was frustrating at first. I hated how unnecessarily mean he was to Jamie, and he just felt like a bland character. However, as he started falling in love with her, he became less obnoxious to me. He could still be cruel, but it didn't happen nearly as often as it had in the beginning.
Throughout the entire novel, I loved Jamie. She was such a strong character, which I think is always important. She went through hell, and despite it all, she stayed positive. I can't even imagine going through half of what she dealt with, let alone all of it simultaneously.
I love that Nicholas wrote it from Landon's perspective. To me, that gives the story more depth and makes it more enjoyable. It added to the general emotions of the story and made it overall more heartbreaking.
I don't think I have any complaints about this book. It was brilliantly written, and it sucked me in from the first page. It was the perfect mix of romantic and sad. If you haven't read this book yet and want to read something that'll put you on an emotional roller-coaster, I highly recommend you read this book. Even if you've already read it, I still recommend it. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

Straight up romance / coming-of-age story about first love and loss. Could easily be classified as YA.
Sparks telegraphs the conclusion pretty early on, and it can't come as much of a surprise to any reader when the Big Challenge looms between the young sweethearts. There's a nice fillip at the end which is left satisfyingly vague -- each reader will have to decide exactly what is being said. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

I don’t normally watch a movie until I’ve read the book, but it does happen once in a while. This was one of those times. I was surprised that I enjoyed the movie since it’s not usually the type of movie I like. However, I did like it, so I’ve been wanting to read the book ever since.
I’ve finally read it and I have to say that I was disappointed. This might be the first time I’ve liked a movie more than the book. Don’t get me wrong, I did like the book. It was a good read. I gave it three stars because I liked it, but It did almost got two stars. A Walk to Remember is sort of between two stars and three. I thought it was more than just okay, but I didn’t like it as much as the books I normally give three stars to. This is one of those times I wish I did half stars. Three stars seems to be normal for his books. This was my third one and they all seem to get three stars. I like them, but I don’t love them. They are good, but kind of forgettable.
I will continue to read more by Nicholas Sparks, but I will be getting his books from the library. I can’t see myself buying this book or any of his others, unless I find them super cheap. I also wont be reading them that often. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
A walk to remember is a story based in the 1950s to 1960s. It follows the Jamie and Landon. Jamie the daughter of the conservative preacher and Landon comes from the popular clique and lives in the wealthy part of town.
I found myself comparing this book to the movie and not loving the movie as much as the book. The book gives it this humble, poetic type feeling that you can't get from the movie experience. This is my first Nicholas Sparks book to read and I am very happy with the writing style and story line. I recommend this book to anyone who likes anything from Nicholas sparks. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

I read this about 10 years ago. As a general rule, I try to stay away from sappy, depressing, romance-y novels. They're just not my thing. No Sparks, no Picoult, no Roberts. I do remember this story being exactly what I expected: sappy, depressing but also a little touching. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

If you enjoyed reading the notebook, this book is much the same. It is an easy read and a touching small town story about a 17 year old boy who falls in love with a girl he has known all his life, but never noticed. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Admittedly not as good as the first time I read it in sixth grade, but this teenage sick-lit romance (spoiler!) still kinda holds up. I honestly almost like the movie better than I do the book. Which is blasphemous I know. But the modern day version of it is more intriguing than the 50's version that takes place in the book. Long before John Green there was Lurlene McDaniels and Nicholas Sparks writing "sick-lit" romances that made teenagers cry, this is a prime example. The bad boy falls for the good girl, and he later finds out (spoiler!) that she's dying. A sappy tear jerker that will always be popular. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

I read ‘A Walk to Remember’ after a family discussion regarding which was better the movie or the book. I loved the movie and enjoyed the book. While both featured the same characters and similarities in story lines, both the movie and the book were different. My preference is the movie. I have watched and enjoyed it several times and I will, more than likely, watch it again. However, the same cannot be said of the book. - Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5

You know how when you read a book and at some point in the book you get to the point that tells you how the book got it's title? Well, that is the part I remember the most about this book. I saw the movie, and adore it of course, but this book is very far from the movie. I would have loved to see the actual book like the movie. The main difference to both is the time period, this book is set 1958, which I love to read about, so it would have made the movie entirely different.
I do have to say the book was short, well written, and interesting. But, I just didn't like it. I don't know if I prejudice from seeing the movie but I didn't find it nearly as moving as the movie was save, the one part where it talks about the title. I will remember that part forever. This is one of those books you have to decide for yourself to read or not. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

This book is one of my all time favorites. It reflects the journey of a young girl, Jamie, dealing with going from a innocent, shy girl to the girlfriend of a popular boy, Landon. Though it takes a while, they build a relationship like no other. They face many trials and tribulations but none measure up to Jamie's battle with leukemia. Landon stays by her side and tries to be strong for her. When the Jamie's battle with cancer ends, Landon is heartbroken. He knows that his love for Jamie will never die. This book is so heart wrenching, but it is such a great one and I would recommend it to anyone 5th grade and up. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

When I first bought this book, I was skeptical. I thought that it was going to be another cheap-schlock romance novel. After all, I wasn't a huge fan of other Nicholas Spark reads.
However, I plunged into this book and each page gave me hope. This wasn't any cheap-schlock, this was a masterpiece. Everything harmoniously comes together at the end, and there wasn't a single thing I would change about it. You have to read this book. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Life beholds many bumps, some bigger than others. One can be a sickness, while another can be a loss or even a separation. This is exactly what is portrayed in "A Walk To Remember" by Nicholas Sparks. A thrilling dramatic-realistic fiction story in a time when things were simple and someone only needed "A Walk To Remember".
The story is a bout a rebel teenage boy Landon that changes into a caring, loving man that has found the thing he has longed for his entire life. Jamie is a humble, caring and generous girl who is very religious and loves her father. Reverend Sullivan, Jamie's father, that protects his daughter and is old fashioned. The two, Landon and Jamie, fall in love in Beaufort, North Carolina, a small town right on the coast in 1958.
At first Jamie and Landon are nothing alike. She is careful and self-disciplined while he is reckless and careless. Their two paths cross when he is asked to perform in her play and soon needs help with his lines. The two slowly grow closer and soon fall in love until the main conflict gets in their way and their lives are drastically changed forever.
I like "A Walk To Remember" because of the way Nicholas Sparks touched the readers hearts and made them feel like they were there for every minute of it. The author created tension by keeping the main conflict away for so long until the reader felt as if they were part of the book. I would recommend the book to any young adult who loves dramatic and romantic novels. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

This is by far my favorite book. This book is about a young girl who has cancer but doesn't want anybody to know. She likes this boy named Landon but he doesn't give her the time in day. Landon gets in trouble with school and must participate in a school play. Jamie was the main character and these two had to work together. Landon starts to fall in love with Jamie, but she told him he must not because of her being sick. It's a great book for young children to read because you never want to take life for granted. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

I have read all Sparks books and love them. This one was sad, but good and also saw the movie.
Every April, when the wind blows from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he’d fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town’s Baptist minister. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

I was never the biggest Sparks fan, but after he came to my school to speak a few months ago I learned something very interesting. All of his stories have some base in truth. My roommate told me that this particular story is based, roughly, off of his sister. After hearing that, I couldn't help but read it. It had been one of my favorite movies when I was younger, and I figured the book had to be at least half as good. Normally I'd say the book had to be better, but considering it's a love story, I didn't want to push it.
It didn't blow me away, but it was definitely good. I'm not sure it was as good as or better than the movie, but it was better than I was expecting. Although the core principles of Jamie were the same as in the movie, her personality and actions were a touch different, making the character slightly less relate able in the print version. Jamie was a bible-thumper in this story. I know she was in the movie too, but the movie, I think, made her character a little more... complex? I'm not sure how to describe it. There was much more to her, but at the same time there wasn't. She was into literature and astronomy and SO many things. She had a bucket list that Landon helped her go through and check off. In the book though, there was none of that. She had her bible and her charity work and that was basically it.
I DID like the book's description of Landon better than the portrayal of him in the movie though. Here, he actually seemed like a relatively decent guy before meeting Jamie, and his time with her only made him a better person. In the movie, he was a bit of a jerk and then magically became this great guy. I think the book's version is more realistic and makes his character more likeable. It also makes it a bit more feasible that he and Jamie would end up together. Maybe it's just me, but that's what it felt like.
I would definitely recommend this book, whether you've seen the movie or not. It's a beautiful story that will tug at your heart a little. Also, for the record, this is the first time I've preferred the movie to the book. There are several movies i won't watch or re-watch because of the atrocities they committed to the story. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

Every April, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. The last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. She was a quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks. Jamie seemed like she was living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie, Landon's partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same.
I loved this book and have also seen the movie and they are both wonderful. I just wish that I could read this book over and over again. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

Not as filling or intense as a multicourse dinner with dessert, but satisfying in its own way, like snacking on a cup of yogurt.
Really, I needed something short and sweet in the midst of my heavier (or darker) reading and editing material. I had a keener reaction to the movie than to the book, likely because I saw the movie first, which I enjoyed. The book was nice all the way through, but it didn't affect me much until Jamie finally made her fateful admission to Landon. Not a spectacular work of English, and I didn't shed any tears, but I did smile at some parts, and I think the book did what it had to do.
Again, short and sweet. My first literary spin with Sparks--I wouldn't mind taking another. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

this was my first Nicholas sparks novel, but definitely not my last. actually it probably wont even be my last this week since i just bought safe haven as a recommendation from my cousin. i didn't read what either book was about before purchasing them and i didn't see the movie. to be honest i have never even heard of Nicholas sparks but i am so glad i found this novel because it was such a great read. i have always been a big fan of tragedy novels and movies and i love a good love story. this one had such great characters in it and was packed full of enough emotion for an entire series. it took place in the 50's which gave the innocents of the characters more credibility and made this story believable. i don't know if i have ever cared as much about a character in a novel as i did about Jamie and the amount of love between her and Landon was so much deeper than any other novel i have ever read. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5
