Mary J. Andrade ha viajado a Michoacán en diferentes ocasiones, con el propósito de fotografiar y escribir cómo se realiza la celebración del Día de Muertos en diferentes poblaciones de ese estado. En 1987 viajó a la isla de Janitzio y convivió con los niños durante el ritual de la Velación de los Angelitos. A partir de entonces ha continuado la investigación de esta tradición prehispánica, visitando diferentes lugares en México.Este es su segundo libro para niños sobre lo que en muchos lugares se conoce también como la Fiesta de los Muertos. El primero, titulado La Velación de los Angelitos, Día de Muertos en México, fue publicado en el 2001, realizándose una edición especial con traducción al p’urhépecha, en el 2005.Mary J. Andrade ha do varios libros bilingües de la serie A través de los ojos del alma, Día de Muertos en México, enfocados en los estados de Michoacán, Puebla, Morelos, Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo y Yucatán. In 1987, she went to the Island of Janitzio, and experienced with the children the ritual of the Vigil of the Little Angels. She travels every year to different parts of Mexico to learn how their inhabitants honor the souls of their loved ones.This is the third children’s book that Mary J. Andrade has published of the celebration of this tradition that in many places is also known as La Fiesta de los Muertos. Her first bilingual book for children titled The Vigil of the Little Angels, Day of the Dead in Mexico was published in 2001. A new edition of the book translated to the P’urhepecha language was published in 2005.Mary J. Andrade has published several bilingual books of the series Through the Eyes of the Soul, Day of the Dead in Mexico, covering different states such as Michoacan, Oaxaca, Yucatan, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo, and San Luis Potosi. travel with their imagination to other places of

the world, where children wait to share with them

their beliefs, traditions, and culture.

Countless voices and memories are the main characters of this children’s story. They instilled in me the desire to share the experiences that I lived in Tzintzuntzan and in the island of Janitzio. They are memories and teachings that remain with me. The images are many and include parents accommodating their children in cars to participate in a parade; mothers, together with grandmothers and godparents, observing quietly from the side of the cemetery. Sons and daughters staying by the tombs, scattering petals of flowers, lighting candles, and placing offerings during the Vigil of the Little Angels. In November 1st, at dawn, children will live this ritual of love, walking together with their parents to the cemetery to honor the memory of their little brothers and sisters. To all of them, my deepest gratitude.
