Hoy tenemos un número especial, el de los magníficos que llegan a 10 años de ediciones algo que en este mundo de comunicar el vino parece casi un milagro
In Spain, we seem to love fancy events, but find the written word a tad too boring. It makes me sad when I compare us to our neighbour Portugal, a country that is smaller in terms of size, but much bigger in terms of the number of wine publications available. Not to mention those countries who are light years ahead of us in this respect, the usual suspects: France, Italy, the USA and Australia.
In Spain, we go on a lot about wine culture and how great Spain is as if we were the only country that understands wine. But this is hogwash, because we do not want to encourage people to think about wine or write about wine. The English, Swiss and Belgians know more about wine than we do, although they produce little, and they are really interested in what they drink. In all these countries there are authoritative and trustworthy wine magazines, which have longevity, the backing of the wine industry and a loyal readership.
Fortunately, wine can be like a hard drug, and those who are addicted to it will continue to be addicted no matter what. It is part of their lives. I think that this is the case with Santiago, the editor of this magazine! Santiago is an entrepreneur who deserves recognition
