- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5A favorite from my childhood, destined for my grandchildren. There are some elements of the story that might worry adult readers, but can be explained to a curious child. Worthy of a reread after many years.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5Curious George was a monkey that a man in a yellow hat found in the jungle and brought back to put in the zoo. After George gets to the man's house he gets into all kinds of trouble and almost doesn't make it to the zoo at all. This is just a fun book for students to read, it could be used when talking about animals, but it is not a factual book.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5About the Author: This book was written by H.A. Rey. He is a writer and an illustrator. Character: The two characters in this book is a monkey and a man. The monkey goes by George and the man was called the Man in The Yellow Hat.Plot/ Summary:The first adventure in this series tells how Curious George, caught in the jungle and brought back to the city by a man in a yellow hat, George can't help being interested in all the new things around him. Though well meaning, George's curiosity always gets him into trouble.Theme: The theme of this story is George being curious and aways getting into lots of trouble.Setting: The setting of this book mainly takes place in the city. Two direct quotes from the book: "We will have to shut you up" pg. 38"George" pg. 50Recommendations: This is a fun and entertaining book. I would recommend teachers to include it in their library. The monkeys actions exemplify the same actions as the age of a reader reading this book would.
- Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5Curious George is a tale about a Monkey from Africa and his adventure to the zoo in America. A man in a yellow hat finds George in a jungle while in Africa. He plans to take him to a zoo in America. George likes the man in the yellow hat and goes with him. George gets into mischief while on the boat home and falls overboard. When he arrives at the man in the yellow hats home, he find the telephone fun to play with, but accidently calls the fire department. George is arrested and sent to jail. George is able to escape from jail through the bars and begins exploring the city. When he sees a man with balloons he decides he wants one. When George grabs the balloons he is whisked away and flies over the city. The man in the yellow hate sees him and rescues him. The man in the yellow hat takes George to the zoo, a nice place for George to live.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5This is a fun fantasy book for beginning readers. It tells the adventures of George in the city with the Man in the Yellow hat. I would use this book in a 1st-2nd grade classroom.
- Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5This is a children's classic but I find it a little disturbing. There's an undercurrent of misery in the text that doesn't jibe with the smiling monkey in the pictures.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5This is my favorite Curious George story.
- Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5My children loved the Curious George books. I would do almost anything not to read them. Hated, hated, hated them. We made bargains.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5This is the story about when George and the man in the Yellow hat first meets. My son loved the book and could not get enough. This series is a good lesson about every action has an reaction.
- Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5I decided to read this book because of it being a "Curious George" book, but I really was not a fan of it. I think that children will get the wrong message in that George did all these mischievous things and got away with them, so they can too. This is not a book I would bring into the classroom.
- Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5I'd have to agree with some of the other reviews - it's a pretty disturbing story. I'm sure a 3 or 4 year old wouldn't be able to see it, but I'm fairly certain a 6 year old would have a few questions about why the Man in the Yellow Hat stole George from he jungle and threw him in a zoo. Maybe if they hadn't ripped him from his home George wouldn't be acting out? I thought I remembered this story differently, but I guess not. 2 stars because the illustrations were good and...well... it's kind of a classic.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5Another delightfully inappropriate children's book, where George is stolen from the jungle, smokes a pipe, and escapes from prison. I love it.
- Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5I actually really disliked this book. I don't like that the story basically says that George does all these bad things, causes all this mischief, and just gets away with it. I think it sends a bad message to kids. Also, I think it's sad that the story starts out with George being stolen from Africa, and ends with him being put in a zoo. Not what I was expecting! Very disappointing.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5Reread this with so much joy with a classroom of 3 and 4 year olds. They were glued! Still crazy for Curious George after all these years....
- Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5I read this book when I was a child. I read it again a few days ago, and it is vastly different then I remember. First, the man in the yellow hat takes George away from his home in the jungle and into the big city. Because George is curious he gets himself into all sorts of trouble. In the end he is taken to live in the zoo and is "happy" in his new home. I am not sure I would want to share this book with my students. Most children know Curious George as a lovable monkey who lives with the man in the yellow hat. This is the way the books were written in the series later on. It might be a good disvussion book for older grades on what kind of response would this book bring had it been written in current times.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5This is the original Curious George that tells the story of how he came to be with the man in the yellow hat. The man in the yellow hat brought George home from Africa and along the way, George gets into his typical curious trouble. This book would be a great one for motivating kids to read because most kids know about Curious George and have either watched him on TV or read about his adventures in books. However, this one is the story of how Curious George came about, and would be very enticing to students who are already interested in Curious George.
- Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5This book is about a little monkey who is curious by nature. his curious ways get this fella into trouble while his owner has to bail him out. It is a cute book and one that children will love to read!
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5The original-mine says 1941 renewed 1969. All time favs. this little monkey is so funny when he has a smoke on the bed. of course out dated in the sense it calls the cop fat. all in all a sweet story. You are so glad he makes it to the zoo before anyone really gets hurt..LOL
- Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5I was familiar with the character, of course, but I don't recall ever reading the first book. And now I think I see why. It is a little stuck in the past, isn't it? We don't glorify poaching anymore, nor smoking, nor old-fashioned zoos. (And that just messes with the series canon, that, since George doesn't live in the zoo in any of the other books.)Moreover, my nieces don't find this book interesting, but they do find more recent Curious George stories interesting. Please read this before you buy to make sure it's right for your kids.
- Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5This is a book that was very popular from my childhood. I love the simple illustrations of a curious monkey who constantly gets in trouble. Although they could be much better if the colors were more vibrant. But overall they are very clear about what is going on which is good for young children. This book is perfect for young children who are curious and imaginative. It shows what could happen to them if they get into mischief. But this book could also encourage children to explore their surroundings and use their imagination. One thing about this book that I did not particularly like was that there were times when the pictures and text did not exactly match up.One example of this was when George was taken from Africa by the man in the yellow hat. The text says "George was sad" but then the pictures shows the exact opposite. George is with the man in the yellow hat and is smiling and looks very happy. To a young child this could be very confusing because the book says one thing but the pictures show another. Overall, I liked this book because it was such a main part of my childhood. I remember reading these books with my mom and that was the best.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5The original book about that trouble-causing monkey and his owner in the yellow hat. A classic for all ages.
- Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5Curious George (Three stars) is a good book for beginner readers. It is a fun story for children about a monkey's adventure with his human owner. Teachers could have this book for their student's downtime.
