- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5I liked this one a lot. I liked that it wasn't about an ingenue; I liked the hints of the world beyond the social circles; I liked the maturity of the relationships; I liked the way Austen slipped in a bit of intrigue.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5A story about love in adult age, about falling in love and waiting to be prepared to live that story. The narrator, as always, is witty and ironic as she can be. "..Two ittle inches of ivory.." yes, of course
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5I have no idea if this or P&P is my favorite of Austen's novels. The character development in Persuasion is much more interesting, and the love story more complex.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5My favorite Austen - her unyielding mockery of the snobbish family members is balanced by the wonderful main characters. Great social commentary balanced by a fulfilling story.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5I love this book. It is perhaps the funniest of all of Austen's works although the humor is in the descriptions of people, rather than the dialogue. It is quiet and sweet. I couldn't help rooting for this couple who stayed in love all those years despite what they thought was a hopeless romance. And the family! What a triumph of love over familial pressures!
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5A gem. This and P&P are my two favorite novels of all time. Austen's quiet but sharp wit is simply delectable, and the older I get, the more I come to appreciate the intricacies of human relationships in the tale. And, as usual, the hero is to die for!
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen novel. It gives you a couple that you can't help but cheer for. It has enough angst to keep you reading, and just overall great characters that you get attached to. Such a great read!
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5Listened to this as an audiobook, and must say it is more difficult to listen compared to reading the text. If my mind wanders off, there's no going back a page or two. However, I enjoyed Karen Savage's reading; her voice is very suitable for reading Austen and very amiable to listen.About the book itself; you got to love Jane Austen. I have nothing to add.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5Yet another classic story of romance by Jane Austen! This book wore me out with all of it's glances, looks, innuendo, nuances, and implications of the smallest of actions that build to a climatic romantic ending. If you like Pride and Prejudice, this last written novel is a must. The reading is not easy to follow the meaning if you are unfamiliar with the verbiage of the era.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5This is my favorite of Jane Austen's books, even more than Pride and Prejudice. I have an easy time identifying with Anne Elliott, as I've often felt that I was under-appreciated by those closest to me. I love the constancy of her affection for Captain Wentworth. The ending is all an ending should be.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5Just wonderful! Witty, clever, and really suspenseful If I didn't know that Miss Austen's books always turn out well, I might have wondered.
- Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5An enjoyable read with Austen's trademark wit and amusing view of society. The heroine is Anne Elliot and she is wonderful and a mature women who finally knows what she wants and gets it.
- Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5This particular Jane Austen novel is definitely my least favorite of the four I've read. It took me awhile to get through this one. It just didn't capture my interest. I liked the character of Anne but beyond that I had trouble keeping track of the other characters. Also the romance came too late for me and I felt detached from the outcome.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5I think this is my favourite Austen novel. There is something so romantic and appealing about the story of Anne and Wentworth. Getting back your lost love like that. But it's not too syrupy which such stories can often be.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5While Pride and Prejudice is the most well known and celebrated of Austen's works, Persuasion is my personal favorite. Once again a tale of love and bad timing it is not an overheard comment as in the case of Elizabeth and Darcy but the 'wise' words of an older relative that created the fateful romance. Like all of Austen's works, this is wonderfully written, with rich characters and a wry sense of humor.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5I love this book so much, and Anne Elliot is right up there with Elizabeth Bennet as my favorite Austen character.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5My favorite scene from all of Jane Austen is in this book.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5The only reason I didn't love this book as much as I loved Pride was because Anne and Frederick didn't have as much interaction as I would have liked. There was very little conversation until the end, some glances here and there, and a lot of introspection on Anne's part. I wanted there to be a bit more tension via conversation - I just love all the interaction Elizabeth and Darcy have and Persuasion just couldn't meet that. But still wonderful and any Austen fan should read it!
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5A page tuner. Austen at the hight of her powers. Tremendous
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5I loved Persuasion. Sometimes I find it hard to read the Austen books because the writing is so much more complex than today's writing. Still, I really enjoy it because it is so descriptive without being overly so. Not the minutiae of every minute, but more along the lines of "she blushed" and you know exactly what she's thinking and feeling without more words.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5Written in 1816. Anne rejected a suitor eight years ago due to her family and friends not thinking him good enough. Now he is back... A good read.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5While I think the praise for Austen is typically overrated, I still enjoy her books. Persuasion, though lacking the biting wit of Pride and Prejudice and the daintiness of Emma, was still pleasant reading. I had to slog through the first 50 or so pages, but after that re-adapted to Austen's particular style of prose. I may read it again in the future and see even more worth, but for now... 3 1/2 stars.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5My second favorite Jane Austen (even though most people put Sense and Sensibility or Emma second). Very underrated novel . . . Also highly recommended!
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5At the beginning I thought it was quite boring. Forced myself to go on and after about the first quarter I couldnt stop reading anymore. Finished the whole book nearly in 1 day. Jane Austen is a fascinationg author, because she makes you excited and thrilled about totally normal and trivial things.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5Austen is funniest when she’s dealing with social snobs, and this novel starts out that way. But the heroine is the daughter of the snob in question, and she is a modest and sensible young lady. Her main fault is that she’s been too easily persuaded to turn her back on the man she really loves. This novel brings her back to him. It’s a perfect antidote after you've read anything depressing.

4/10.
The story of a singular sister in a family of delusional lunatics and her attempt to find love with the bloke she fancies who she spurned years before. Nonsense as per.
- Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5My sister gave me the 1998 Penguin Classics edition of Persuasion because my old copy threatened to fall apart if ever opened again. I'm very pleased with her choice because of all the chapter notes that explain what some of the words meant at the time Miss Austen wrote this novel, as well as what some terms no longer used mean. I love that kind of information! It made me appreciate the story as never before.
- Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5A woman still loves the man she dumped years ago.Good. This is the first book from this era that I've read, and it was pretty hard at first to care about a story from such an alien culture. You wait for most of the book for one of these two characters to just tell the other one they like them already. It's weirdly satisfying when they finally do.
- Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5After watching Mansfield Park on DVD last night, I had the whim to read this novel. I have the movie on DVD (actually two versions) but oddly enough, had yet to read the book. I thought that it was quite lovely. Its not my favorite Austen novel (Mansfield Park is my favorite), but it is close. I think the story could take place today and it would have the same meaning. That is what is great about many of Austen’s novels. They have meaning for us in our lives today.
