Where we talk about Death Education,.Holding a compassionate vision to help us navigate through loss and end of life care.I am your host Patty Bueno.Today our guest is Karla McLaren, M.Ed. She is an award-winning author, educator, and social science researcher. Her work revalues even the most “negative” emotions and opens startling new pathways into self-awareness, effective communication, and healthy empathy. She is the author of Embracing Anxiety and The Language of Emotions, and the developer of the online learning site EmpathyAcademy.orgShe shares with us why is it important to understand what our feelings are trying to tell us.What happens when we are grieving? In her book The Language of emotions she says "Grief is a beautiful, languid, and powerful emotion that arises when death occurs, be it actual death or the death of profound attachments, ideas, or relationships. Grief does not simply bring water to you as sadness does; grief drops you directly into the river of all souls. Grief transports you in the deepest places when you have no choice but to let go, when the loss of vital relationships or vital attachments feel like (or is) death itself."Internal questions: What must be mourned? What must be released completely?Gifts: Complete immersion in the river of all souls.Signs of obstruction: Unwillingness to accept or honor loss, death, or profound transitions.
