0Mireia affirms in no uncertain terms that wine is her life. She is a woman who seems very serious, but when you get to know her, her kindness and her immense knowledge immediately come across. Mireia Torres Maczassek is a fifthgeneration member of the Torres family (Familia Torres). She runs the Jean Leon winery, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, with her unique methods and discretion. It is a place where she can pursue all the innovation and sustainability projects that excite her. Her schedule is packed and she is constantly having to strive for a healthy work-life balance. Our interview is long-distance, but Mireia is very open in her replies. She acknowledges that the transition between the fourth and fifth generations of the Torres family is still ongoing, acknowledging that it has not always been easy. However, resolving their differences has helped them to grow. She talks about love of the land, passion for wine culture, and perseverance as being the pillars of the family business. Her father, Miguel A. Torres, taught her to be a nonconformist as well as pragmatic and resilient. She has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a diploma in oenology and viticulture. She is head of the Innovation and Scientific Knowledge Department at Familia Torres and the president of its foundation. She also presides over the Innovi Cluster, and like any wine producer at this time of the year, her main concern is the 2023 harvest, which is unpredictable and complicated due to the extreme drought.
