Although he is now one of the leading figures on tlie global design scene, Tom Dixon had no plans to pursue a career in design: he didn't really plan to do anything beyond making things by hand and with whatever was put in front of him. He began his career by creating furniture out of scrap metal, thus giving old materials a new life, and in 2002 he decided to apply that same process to himself and launched his own brand.
