This was my first sci-fi romance book and I was pleasantly surprised. While the cover looks racy and there are absolutely racy themes in the book, there is also a plot line to follow. I am interested to read more in this series and see how the characters develop. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

This may be the silliest book I've ever read. As a work of science fiction, it is ... lacking. A lot. The biology and the physics are a mess, to put it charitably, and the worldbuilding is sketchy. But when it comes to the spicy lovemaking scenes between the alien and the human, the writing is absolutely on point. Read this for the smut, not the plot, and you'll be plenty happy. - Calificación: 2 de 5 estrellas2/5

*This is a #TBRChallenge review, there will be spoilers, I don't spoil everything but enough, because I treat these reviews as a bookclub discussion.
This months #TBRChallenge theme was Not in Kansas Anymore, Ice Planet Barbarians immediately came to my mind. The female main character in this is abducted by aliens and then crash lands on another alien planet and since this is erotic and she ends up going to town with an alien, it's a subgenre of romance that I don't frequently dabble in. The heroine and I, Not in Kansas Anymore!
First off, just let me say this:
Y'all. Wut.
That off my chest...
It wasn’t a monster come to eat me. It was this monster. Who’s come to eat me out.
Georgie wakes up groggy and confused, only to find out that she has been abducted by aliens. She's on a space ship in a holding cell with other young women and talking with one named Liz, she learns they are all young, healthy, and women who don't have any close familial ties from earth. The women in the holding cell seem to be “extras” as there are other women unconscious in pods.
Ok, I'm with you.
Then when another woman wakes up, she starts screaming, causing the other women to try and quiet her down, they're scared. The abducting aliens come into the room and grab the screaming woman and proceed to rape her repeatedly in the room in front of the other women. It's a very early scene and incredibly cringe worthy as the tone of this scene of rape did not fit in with what turns out to be a romance – erotic story; the way the whole thing was treated created a wonky vibe for me.
Georgie is an intrepid heroine, she sets a plan to get the aliens to come into the holding cell and then the women will attack and, I guess, try to take over the ship (??). The plan involves throwing the women's poop and pee bucket on the alien coming into the cell to stun it and then attack. The pee and poop gets thrown, covering Georige too, but as she's trying to battle the alien, the women abandon her in fear and don't help. Fortunately, the ship gets some problem with it at that moment and the aliens decide to ditch the prisoner pod and Georgie and the other women are now crash landed on an alien planet.
A lot of the women survive the crash but they're weak, cold, and starting to starve. One of the women was tagged with an interpreter sort of device to her ear (convenient!) and she heard the aliens say they were dumping them but going to come back for them with another ship. So pee and poop (I'm going to keep bringing this up) covered Georgie is sort of volunteered and picked to leave the ship to search for help. The world is close enough to Earth that Georgie can breath the air but it's temp is extremely cold. Just when she thinks she's going to freeze to death, she gets caught in a snare and a ribbed for her pleasure alien comes to the rescue.
We do get Vektal's pov, which I liked and helped to add to the humorous, winking at the reader that this is kind of ridiculous, tone of the story. On Vektal's planet, you need to accept a worm like thing into your body, or you'll die from the atmosphere and this worm like thing makes your eyes glow and picks out your soulmate for you (convenient!). It starts rattling/purring at the first sight of Georgie. So, naturally, Vektal begins eating out Georgie (who is covered in pee and poop) as she's still passed out from being in the snare. Georgie wakes up to what Vektal is doing to her and we get this line: “It’s ticklish and it makes me squirm and I should be screaming no, help, rape and instead, I have the giggles.”
Ok, I'm not really with you anymore.
Do you all see what I mean about cringing and wonky vibes in a winking humor, romance – erotic tone story delivering this line?
Georige's intrepid and smart (and still covered in pee and poop) and decides that Vektal is her best bet. They have a language barrier but kind of communicate enough to get some things across. Vektal's driving need is to feed and take care of Georgie, who he sees as his soulmate, while Georgie is trying to just not anger him and get him to go back up the mountain to help rescue the other women.
Georgie bathes off the pee and poop!
(I'm sorry, but I could not forget this and it ruined any chance I had of getting into the story up to this point until it was dealt with)
Vektal's dick is basically a Rabbit 7000 and after some sex, Georgie's starting to get attached to the big blue horned, tailed guy. A snow storm has them going to “The Cave of the Elders” which turns out to be a space ship that wrecked centuries ago and stranded Vektal's people on the plant. Georgie learns this because she some how activates the ship's computer who tells her all this and uploads Vektal's language to her brain so she can communicate with him (convenient!).
When Georgie is now able to tell Vektal about the other women, he is ecstatic, his people are dying because lack of available females. However, Georgie makes him promise that the women will have a choice in accepting their “soulmates” or not and since Vektal is the chief of their group (convenient!), he agrees. They go to Vektal's home to pick up more guys and then go to rescue the women.
At the crashed spaceship they deal with the abductor aliens coming back and then decide if they're going to stay on this planet, accept the worm like thing, or fly?? Vektal's cave of elders space ship back to Earth???? Staying, is obviously, the more convenient choice. The story leaves with someone else being a soulmate and ample women and big blue guys to eventually soulmate up for future books in the series. Vektal and Georgie's relationship is sort of there if you want sex and a little bit of friendship connection and the worldbuilding is sort of there if you want a couple paragraphs of alien lore. I would have rated this higher as a romance erotic story, it's quick and gets the job done but that rape scene and Georgie's thoughts, really jarred that feeling for me (not to mention the continued existence of Georgie covered in pee and poop). - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

OMG this book!
3.5 stars. Once it got started on the planet, it was silly and funny and steamy. On the spaceship beforehand, I wasn’t as thrilled with it though.
Trigger warnings on this one!
I though Georgie and Vektal were awesome, but I’m hoping the rest of the series let’s us follow others in this tribe as well, as I wish we’d gotten to know them better. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Abducted from Earth by alien slave traders along with another dozen women, then crash-landing on a hostile ice planet, Our Heroine sets out to find supplies and/or help and gets captured/rescued by a naturalised alien whose local symbiote immediately identifies her as his perfect mate.
The story could have gone in some very dark directions if her reaction to waking up to an alien eating her out hadn't been "What the....Oh wow actually that's really good, keep doing that," and the language barrier and culture clash still makes for some problematic assumptions and dynamics. (Though it is later heavily implied that if she hadn't been into him after all he would - albeit after much confusion - probably have respected that.) But thanks to the genre and some pleasing differences of alien anatomy, everything works out between them and many happy endings ensue.
I never really care much about plain sex scenes so I skimmed these a bit; but I did really enjoy the scenes where they're initially learning to communicate with each other. The technique of representing what English sounded like to alien ears was especially effective.
AO3 tags would include: soulmates, alien sex, ridges make the world go round, a bit of dubcon, unintended pregnancy, strong protective man, badass weakling woman, mate-or-die, idfic, nsfw. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

Georgie Carruthers along with a group of other women are abducted from Earth by aliens. During their trip to the alien planet, they encounter turbulence, which causes the aliens to disengage their portion of the ship. When it crashes on a frozen alien planet, two of the women are killed and the others must figure out how they will survive. By this point, Georgie has become the defacto leader of the group and takes off on her own to find help. In the process, she almost freezes to death but is found by a blue alien with horns and a tail named Vektal. Georgie doesn't understand her attraction to the kind alien, but she accepts his offer of help.
Ice Planet Barbarians is a crazy science fiction romance with lots of plot holes and missing information, but that doesn't seem to matter much in this story that is reminiscent of a 1970s porn movie with a sweet romance thrown in the mix. Character development is weak and the story line is nonsensical, but overall, Ice Planet Barbarians is just a fun, sexy romp that doesn't take itself very seriously. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Sometimes I read improving middle grade literature, and sometimes I read smutty smutty smut -- this is particularly satisfying smut. I could delve into all kinds of criticism about the kinds of things this fantasy represents, but why spoil anyone's enjoyment? This is a blue horned alien getting it on with a trapped human woman on an ice planet. I really appreciated the strong messages that even with a fate/mate scenario, Georgie argued successfully for the women's ability to choose, and the extraordinary sweetness that is at the core of her relationship with Vektal. Honestly, I have more trouble believing that a modern 22 year old would successfully transition to living a primitive lifestyle than in the relationship writing, and that is saying something. It's got a fast paced plot, appealing characters, and is a wild, adventurous ride. Thank you, Tiktok, for promoting this book. I read the revised release advanced reader's copy and then listened to the older version audio book. Yep, read it through twice and found it entertaining both times. I can't wait to read the other women's stories, so I'll be sticking with the audio books for a while, since that seems to be the only version I can access at present. Two thumbs up for the additional materials/stories in the upcoming book release. I think fans will be pleased to see some further adventures.

To sum up Ice Planet Barbarians, it is an alien/human sci-fi romance noel. There is a lot of sexual torture scenes, which I cannot help but wonder if there was another way the author could have gotten the message across regarding the kidnapped girls and the torture they endured. I do not fell this book was my style but it was well-written. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

This series began as a self-published experiment by a NYT Best-Selling author under the pseudonym Ruby Dixon. She wanted a change of pace and decided a Sci-Fi Alien Romance was just what she was in the mood to write. The first two books were serialized and gathered some online fans. When the stories started trending on Tik Tok, the author was both surprised and pleased. twenty-two books later, they are still fun to write and now have quite a large audience. Berkley is coming out with a print, paperback edition this November of this, the first book in the series.
The author decided to write about so many of her favorite tropes. Twenty-two year old Georgie Carruthers is a bank teller in Tallahassee, Florida, when she is abducted by aliens. She joins a number of other young women of around the same age who were also abducted. They are kept in the hold of a spaceship and guarded by brutal aliens. When the ship encounters some sort of mechanical failure, the hold in abandoned on an ice planet.
Since the most of the women were hurt in the crash and left with insufficient clothes and scant food and water, Georgie who has become the de facto leader decides to venture out to see if she can find help. The only clothing she has is that of one of the guards that the women managed to overwhelm and kill during the crash. She immediately knows that she's on another planet; the two suns and extra-large moon are the giveaways.
Georgie finds herself on a mountain in a cold and alien environment. She also finds herself caught in a snare which at least lets her know that there are thinking beings on the planet.
Now, Vektal enters the story. He is big and blue, has horns and a tail, and is the chief of his tribe. He also has a khui - a symbiont that lets him survive the harsh conditions. His khui immediately begins to resonate when he finds Georgie. That resonance is a sign that he has found his mate. Despite not speaking the same language, their romance gets hot and heavy right away. Note: If you don't like frequent sex in all sorts of positions and variations, this is NOT the book for you.
Georgie needs to find a way to convince Vektal to help her rescue the other girls. It helps that one of the hunting shelters that they use along the way is actually the ship that brought Vektal's ancestors to the planet the girls have named Not-Hoth. After chipping away some ice, she wakes up the ship's artificial intelligence which gives her the history of her rescuer and a linguistic upload that gives her Vektal's language.
Now able to communicate, they head to Vektal's home, gather more hunters, and go off to rescue the other girls who are in bad shape when they arrive. They also need to hunt down an animal to get symbionts for all of the humans. They can only survive on the planet for a week without them. But having the symbiont also means that they can't leave the planet again.
The story is told alternately from Georgie's and Vektal's points of view. It was interesting to know how both Georgie and Vektal are reacting to things that happen. While I thought their romance happened awfully fast and Georgie dealt perhaps a little too well with all the changes in her life, it was an engaging story. A devoted science fiction fan might have quite a few quibbles about many things, i.e. how a small group of aliens managed to survive on a planet that was so harsh or how two such different sorts of beings were sexually compatible and interfertile, but readers who are in it for the romance will enjoy the story and be looking to read more in the series. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

Overall I enjoyed the story - it's fun and smutty and well written.
I also had a lot of niggles, but that's just par for the course by now - I want everything to make sense dammit! but rarely anything does when reading a romance/sci-fi, as the authors usually choose to focus on the romance more and often neglect what to me seem like very important parts of the story.
Like the fact that while one of the MCs was an alien (basically Na'vi with horns) and more than half of the book they couldn't even communicate properly, their non-verbal communication was perfect. There are parts of Earth where nodding your head up and down will mean "no" and parts where it will mean "yes" - what are the odds you'll find an alien species on a distant planet that will have the same understanding of that particular head movement as you do? Or that a smile is supposed to be a sign of friendliness and not a threatening bearing of teeth? Or that pointing at something will instantly indicate you want the other person to look at what you are pointing at instead of the hand that's doing it? I don't think authors should explain every little thing while writing a sci-fi/romance story (that would be exhausting and probably spoil a light and fun read such as this), but a little acknowledgement that they are aware of those questions would be nice because when they totally ignore such aspects of the story and pretend they don't even exist makes me think that they really don't care for the setting and use it as an erotic prop only.
Tl;dr - Lyn Gala spoiled me for all other aliens and you all have to hear about it.
But despite of my constant angsting about how this and why that, I did have fun with the story and read it in one breath which is saying a lot. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Tiktok totally made me read this book. Or in my case listen to it. And overall it was not bad. I have read worse erotica. A ship of women stolen from earth crashlands on an ice planet and they must survive.
Georgie is their unintended leader. She leaves the broken pile of rubble to search for food and shelter. But is soon accosted by Vektal. His Cree hums for her, and she awakens with a neither region tongue bath. And now they are mates. At least in Vektal’s eyes. Communication issues aside, Georgie wants help not just for herself but for her crew mates. But this world was not meant for her. It’s cold and in hospital. But Vektal is just too alluring, horns, blue skin and all. So it's happy sexy time. Eventually they head back to the ship to collect the ladies, and they take some of Vektal’s tribe along to help bring supplies. It is up to Georgie to let the ladies know that if they stay they have to take in a parasite that will allow them to live on the land, as well as “resonate” to find a perfect breeding partner later on.
Some of these women seem way too eager saying things like they would go down on a alien if he brings her a hamburger. But over all its standard erotica. The story moves along nicely. The spicy scenes get a bit repetitive, and trigger warning: there are consent issues (as seen above). And at the end there is a bit of family planning issues I am not alright with, but is typical for the genre.
Overall it was a fun and quick read. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon
Book 1 of the same named series. Science fiction romance with erotic elements. Trigger warnings at the very beginning of this book. To get past the worst, start at 11%, page 15 of 179, or 30:30 listening at 1.0.
Spoilers ahead **********
A group of women are kidnapped by an alien race and are dumped at a planet of a different race. We don’t know much about the kidnappers other than they don’t care about human women beyond sales, cattle or sexual release. I’m told that changes in future books.
Georgia ventures out of the abandoned spaceship to find help, food and shelter for the group. After getting caught in a snare, she is rescued and mated by the leader of the planet inhabits. Great sex ensues even though they can’t understand each others language. More alien twists grant Georgie the ability to understand her mate and the two then rescue the rest of the women setting up future connections.
I think I didn’t like this book mostly because of the beginning issues. The story of fated mates and erotica that follows probably would have been easier to enjoy if someone had told me to start after page 15.
The scene of having to eat the raw meat of the just killed and butchered animal still has me gagging. Yes, proud city girl here that orders take out and cooked meals only.
The romance was ok if just too coincidental. I may continue the series just to know the original kidnappers eventually get caught.
Escapism if you enjoy the science fiction and destined or fated mates with plenty of erotic scenes. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

I find it incredibly hard to write a review when a book has left me speechless, but here goes.
Georgie is abducted by a group of aliens and placed in a cage with several other women on board a ship headed far off into the universe. The alien's intend to sell all the young women, a perverse, intergalactic sex trafficking ring. When the ship sustains serious damage, the cargo of women is dropped on an inhospitable planet of ice. Georgie leaves the ship in search of food and help. She's caught in a trap belonging to an inhabitant of the planet, Vektal, who whisks her off on an erotic adventure.
Okay, so... the description of Vektal seriously reminds me of a male draenei from World of Warcraft. Beyond that, I'm kinda left scratching my head. I suppose if it wasn't a story about sex with aliens, say it was just another human who had saved her from a human trafficking ring in another country, I wouldn't be quite as thrown as I am, so in that sense, it was an alright book. That's about the best I can say about it though.
