CARNIVALS: PUBLIC CLANDESTINE CELEBRATIONS…THE SOCIAL EXPRESSION WHERE EVERYTHING GOES To be born and raised in a carnival city like Barranquilla is privilege…a fortune. I would say it is a complete, full integrated life experience…one you can’t buy…that you’re blessed to be born too or to be a guest off.   I’d dare to say somewhat more inclusive, diverse, tolerant…Without closing my eyes to the reality of a basic, under development, third world, “machista society” in South America… That during the Carnavals…the CITY transforms itself…the voltage of our local society’s CIVIC ENERGY TRANSFORMS. Everything changes…the attitude changes completely. To the side we dump our differences, our shames, our anxieties. And yes, TODOS, TODAS, TODES TOGETHER…Everybody blended together….Everyone comes out to fully express themselves and explore is temporary space in time where people from all walks of life and socio-political and economic conditions share, interact, love, party and voice their thoughts without prejudice. Even the most extreme, radical. An invisible fraternal bond is created…and heavily celebrated!!Everyone is disconnected from the nuances of their realities. When and where we’re all accepted…we truly are…for that special period. I speak with DANNY GONZALEZ. He has a PhD from Madrid’s Complutense and a thesis with an honorable mention about Transformism, Cross Dressing and Drag during the Carnivals in the Colombian Caribbean Coast.
