WOMEN OF WINE
In 2009, Anne Cannan, winemaker and owner of Clos Figueras, decided to hold an event in her winery during the Priorat wine fair to give more prominence and visibility to women producing wine in the Priorat. Such was the success of the initiative that the event has been repeated every other year under the name of “El Tast amb Dones” (the tasting with women). In 2016, and in parallel to Alimentaria, the first “WOMEN OF WINE” showroom was held in Barcelona, with the presence of women from all over Spain, which was also very successful and had a great impact within the wine world.
Selectus Wines: What is Women of Wine?
Anne Cannan: It‘s a group of women winegrowers, winemakers, etc., professionals who come together to have their wines tasted. We will create an association for ourselves at some point in the future, but for now, we are just a group of women from the wine industry.
SW: What is the purpose of this group/ association?
AC: There have always been women in the wine industry but they weren’t so visible and had no real prominence. Now I think we have to proactively do things to make ourselves better known and one of the best ways to do so is to create showrooms that attract many people because we are a large number of women in one place at one time.
SW: How many women are there in Women of Wine?
AC: For the organisation, I started with the Clos Figueras team and, in 2019, we were joined by Meritxell Falgueras from Celler Gelida. It is not always the same female wine producers, but most repeated the experience.
SW: What are Women of Wine’s medium/ short term objectives?
AC: To hold more events with more and more women producers and in different cities.

En el año 2009, Anne Cannan, enóloga y propietaria de Clos Figueras, decide realizar durante la feria del vino del Priorat un evento en su bodega para dar más protagonismo y visibilidad a las mujeres productoras de vino en el Priorat. Tal fue el éxito de la convocatoria, que de forma bianual se repite el evento bajo la denominación de “El Tast amb Dones” (La cata con mujeres). Y en el 2016, y en paralelo a Alimentaria, se celebró en Barcelona el primer showroom de “MUJERES DEL VINO”, con la presencia de mujeres de toda España, también con mucho éxito y repercusión en el entorno vitivinícola.
Selectus Wines: ¿Qué es “Mujeres del vino”?
Anne Cannan: Es un grupo de mujeres productoras, enólogas, …, profesionales del vino que se juntan para hacer catar sus vinos. Igual un día nos convertiremos en asociación pero de momento sólo somos un grupo de mujeres del mundo del vino.
SW: ¿Cuál es la finalidad de esta agrupación/asociación?
AC: Mujeres en el vino, siempre ha habido pero no se veían tanto y no tenían protagonismo. Ahora creo que tenemos que hacer cosas para darnos a conocer y una buena manera es hacer los showrooms que atraen mucha gente porque somos muchas a la vez.
SW: ¿Cuántas personas forman “Mujeres del vino”?
AC: Para la organización empecé yo misma con el equipo de Clos Figueras y en 2019 se unió Meritxell Falgueras de Celler Gelida. Las productoras no siempre son las mismas pero la gran mayoría repiten.
SW: ¿Cuáles son los objetivos a medio/ corto plazo de “Mujeres del vino”?
AC: Hacer más evento con cada vez más mujeres productoras y en ciudades diferentes.
