Shortly after turning seven, his family took up the£10 offer to migrate to Australia, and settle in Echuca,Victoria, where Ian attended school. He studied Sociologyand Politics at Monash University in Melbournebefore working in the public service, first in Canberraand then Melbourne. Ian later became an editor atLonely Planet in Melbourne, on the back of his otherdeep interest, travel.In 2021 he self-published his acclaimed first sciencefiction novel, Lost and Plooglitless.
