She has published writings in multiple publications such as Jazz and Culture (Pittsburgh University), Chamber Music Magazine, and the Library of Congress Blog, in addition to writing liner notes and song lyrics for critically acclaimed recordings. She has received honorary doctorate degrees from Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music and York University, and serves as the artistic director for the Carr Center (Detroit) and the Next Jazz Legacy program (New Music USA, Mellon Foundation).
