Lunchtimes would find him resting on his machine’s wooden footboard, reading the Bible. This lunchtime-reading habit continued through the years, unintentionally provoking numerous anti-God discussions. These were sometimes heated, but he always upheld the existence of God. The last eighteen years of his work-life comprised increasingly senior management roles in a Global Blue-Chip Corporation—no lunchtime, as such, just eating whilst working. Here, the last six were at senior leadership level. His work background took him throughout the UK and to Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Libya, Brazil, and the USA. About seventeen years ago, he met a pastor, an old WWII veteran of “Bomb Alley and the Sicily, Salerno and Anzio landings.” Taking on a derelict church building, this pastor made it fit for purpose. It was the author’s old boyhood church, and the pastor baptised him in 2001. He then worked with the church youth and participated as a “help” in several Christian “Alpha” courses.
