She is recognized as an expert in trauma, the
integration of spirituality in counseling, and the training of counselors.
Sharon distinguished herself as a leader in the counseling field
both at state and national levels serving in leadership roles in
the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC).
Her gubernatorial appointment and election as chair to the Maryland Board of Professional
Counselors and Therapists, resulted in her spearheading the process
of obtaining licensure for professional counselors in Maryland.
The American Counseling Association recognized her
contribution to the field with the Carl D. Perkins award
