A Spoiler free review....
OK here it goes.... Hold on to you seatbelts your in for a bumpy ride! :O)
Lover Avenged is a wonderful roller coaster of a ride!! I loved each and every page. There was never a point in Lover Avenged that I was tempted to skip forward a single word. I thought this book was excellent. The pacing was very good and really advanced the story-line arc.
Rehevenge the Symphath has always been a complex character. He is good (brother, son), bad (drug dealer, murderer, all around hard ass), loyal (friend, employer) but newly added to the list is a kind and sympathetic lover! Rehevenge has always thought he would never deserve to be loved.
Elehana is a good person. She is a kind, thoughtful daughter and nurse. Her life has not been an easy one. With her fathers illness and reversal of fortune. She fines it very hard to find time or the energy to have a social life.
All Vampire's know the law that any Symphath has to be reported and sent to the Symphath colony, as soon as they are found out in the Vampire socity.
We get to see many more of our favorites than we have in some of the other books. Wrath,Beth, Thorment, Lassiter, John Mathew, Xhex and iAm. There was a very good balance of story lines. Ms Ward has her Bro banter down to an art form. As well as more of Lash and his new found evil strength.
It has also set up the next book in the series, Lover Mine - John Matthews book, and OMG I can not wait.
I give Lover Avenged ***** outta 5 *'s Tis Awesomeness!! My first perfect read of 2009. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

At this point it is as if the single brother single storyline deal Ward had before is decimated. This book had ups, downs, and a whole lot of new crazy thrown at the reader. I wish we could have gotten Elehna and Rev some more to truly feel the connection because it felt a little as an after thought. What we do get in this book is some serious John/Xhex shipping. ALL the ships. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

So many before me have written about the story line that there is enough material to make another book. Therefore, I am just going to sum up a few of my thoughts and feelings on the book Lover Avenged. Which by the way is the story of Rehvenge and Ehlena. There are other sub plots gong on also. Sometimes I do find that distracting, but then again the lives of the characters are all running congruent.
At first I was not a fan of Rehvenge; yet, after reading Lover Avenged I have totally changed my mind. Rehv was a drug dealer and a pimp, how can you sympathize with a guy like that? As the story unfolds you see that he himself is a victim. Though he does bad things it is for a good reason. I actually had to get the Kleenex out when his mother died.
J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series is like chocolate to a dieter with PMS. It is such a sinful treat. Now this lady can tell a story! Already can’t wait to read the next book in the series…. especially since Ms. Ward left us with a cliff hanger. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

It's been a while since I read this book and I'm STILL in love with Rehv!! It's not often that I wish a character was real, but OH how I wish this man was!! Great story, lots of angst and ass kicking and secrets and... well, typical Brotherhood good-stuff! I just can't get the guy out of my head, and he's replaced V as my new fav (sorry V, but you're still my fav brother). - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

It took me much longer to read this book than the others so far. Part of that was that some parts were harder for me to get into, but part was just a lack of reading time. I did like the book, though it wasn't my favorite of the series. I ended up liking Rhevenge much more than I did in the beginning and even feeling bad for him in parts. I like where everything with him ended up. I am very concerned for what's next for John Matthew and Xhex though. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Started out real slow for me, I was not really interested in Rhvenge at all. I fought to get through the first 150 plus pages. Then I got caught in the whirlwind of a story that this book is. I found that I was liking Rhvenge, and his crew were more intriguing then I could have thought possible. It was a new story line that I had not read in many other books and I appricate the imagination. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

These books are campy, cheesy, adventurous, and original. I hate that I love reading these.
It reminds me of when I go to the grocery and buy something like fiery hot Cheetos, or bacon flavored SPAM. Or even those cheap pot pies in the frozen section, or a bag of pork rinds. I have to shop produce first because then I can...or ONE can hide them under the healthy food. You don't want people to know that you love those things but you can't stop buying them from time to time, or in this case, reading them.
So I've heard.... - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

I found this book to be really good. I didn't like it as much as Vishous' book, but I liked how you got to learn more about Wrath and Beth's relationship. Rehvenge isn't as bad a guy as I thought he was in the previous books, and I've even developed a soft spot for Xhex. I absolutely loved the parts with Wrath and Beth though. I feel like those parts were a bit comic relief and a bit of an insight into the brotherhood. To me those were the best parts of the whole book. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

I am finally getting over all of the ridiculous names and spellings in this series! I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing...
I've liked the character of Rehvenge ever since he was introduced as Bella's super protective older brother. I've only grown to like him more as he was slowly fleshed out in the series, so I was excited to read his and Ehlena's story.
Ward's style of writing took a major turn after the first five books; instead of focusing mainly on the couple, she's been including multiple story lines in the book. This leaves the romance taking a backseat much of the time, and this book was no different in that regard. Ehlena and Rehvenge's relationship doesn't have much time in the spotlight, but when it does, it is done well. I like Ehlena; she may come off as a weaker female, but she eventually proves her strength. And, like I mentioned above, I really like Rehvenge, and I thought that Ehlena was a good fit for him.
The story line featuring Lash and the Lessers was the worst, in my opinion. It basically circled around Lash trying to find a way for the Lessening Society to make money by taking out drug dealers and assuming their place in Caldwell. I got rather sick of this story line early, and I found myself skimming those parts in the book.
I was also less than enthralled with the story line of Wrath going blind. Wrath has never been a favorite character of mine - I barely made it through Dark Lover and that book remains my least favorite in the series - and I skimmed most of his parts, as well.
But I like the messed up relationship between John Matthew and Xhex, and I'm so looking forward to reading their story - in fact, as soon as I'm finished with my review, I am going to pick that book up and start reading! :) I do like that John Matthew is starting to grow up, which has taken him quite a while, considering how much crap he has gone through in the series so far.
I was surprised that Bella (and, therefore, Z) didn't have more of a role in this book, considering that Rehvenge is her brother, and he has put a lot of effort into deceiving her for all of her life. I would have liked a better scene between them at the end, wrapping up the loose ends.
Still, the ending wasn't bad, and I liked how Rehvenge and Ehlena ended. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

After Phury's story I thought this one had much more action but still plenty of angst to go around. I really liked Ehlena and I thought she had a pretty good storyline. The one thing that didn't make me give this book a five star review was the kind fo interaction Ehlena and Rehv had, I think the whole thing was a little bit rushed despite the book being quite long, just think their relationship could've used some more polishing. Great ending though! - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Wow, this book, the seventh in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, displays a marked improvement in storytelling. As an added bonus, we even get to spend a few pages with characters that have seen little to no action since the book where they were the main character! Turns out Mary IS still around!
Focusing on Rehvenge, the vampire/sympath owner of the nightclub ZeroSum, this book gives us a better taste of what it is to be a sympath. As this story also contains significant storylines for Wrath and John Matthew, it does a good job of moving the greater plot arc forward.
It took me a while to read, almost twice as long as the previous books, but it was worth the effort. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Almost from the moment he was introduced in the series, I have wanted to learn more about the half-sympath Rehvenge. He is Bella's (Zsadist's mate, from book 3) brother and now the leader of the glymera, the vampire aristocracy. The knowledge that he is half-sympath is a closely guarded secret, even from his own flesh and blood, but the price of silence is extremely high.
Rehvenge is a complicated and fascinating character, making Lover Avenged a wonderful addition to the series. Along with his story, J.R. Ward continues to combine drama with other characters and tension about the war with the Lessening Society into Lover Avenged, creating depth and a taut, suspenseful story. I noticed that the next book, Lover Mine, will be released in paperback this week, and I will definitely be picking it up to continue the series. - Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas3/5

Typical JR ward book. All of them are pretty interchangeable. That's not to say I don't enjoy reading them. I don't like the use of the serviced but it is common theme in many of the books, so push through them. Also, the word true is over used. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Moving out of the realm of romance and more into urban. Still enjoyable even if the romantic relationship is not the central focus of the book. I liked Rehv and wished to see him fight his sympath side more so he could be with Ehlena. And I felt the forgiveness was too easily given. He lied to her about everything he was and a month apart and his capture by the sympath king, and she forgives him. I feel more time should have been spent exploring this fascinating betrayal. But I liked Rehv when he was with Ehlena, because he wanted to be better and he loved her. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

When you stand back from the stories they are full of holes and the extra h's scattered all over the stories that make you shake your head when you read the glossary. Then you start to read and if you're like me you're sucked in and a little over 700 pages later you're coming up for air wondering when the day/night went.
This is the story of Elena and Rehvenge and a relationship that builds because of a chance encounter and a woman determined to nurture and save others. There were times when I was wondering what was going to happen with the characters and what their motivation was, and honestly I really didn't understand why Rehvenge needed the drugs he was taking and I felt that was a bit of a void in the story.
It was an interesting read and you could see how several of the characters develop and it's also interesting to see a mostly blind and deaf character in stories. The relationship between John and Xhex showed some interesting possibilities. There was a lot of different plot development in this story and I'm looking forward to reading more.
These are not stories I find myself really wanting to reread often but I do find them entertaining and diverting. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

This is book 7 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series and it left me wishing book 8 was out already. I think this one is my second favorite in the series. My first favorite being Zadist’s story.
This one is about the story of Rhevenge or Rhev and Ehlena. However, it doesn’t really focus so much on their love story, but the events going on around them. I have to to agree with some of the other reviewers here on GoodReads that this one had a lot of plot lines. It tended to jump around from one event to another, which made it seem choppy at times. All of a sudden I was learning more about Ehlena and Rhev and the next I was with Lash dealing with Lesser issues. This annoyed me at times because I wanted more of Ehlena and Rhev’s story. However, I do think that Ward does a good job of setting up the story for the changes that are about to come in the next book. It’s obvious that the story has shifted from the individual Brothers to the events that are happening in their world and how they are dealing with it, so I think some of the plot lines were necessary to move things along. I just wish it was done in a tidier fashion. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Lover Avenged
Book 7 of the BDB series
Rehvenge & Ehlena with a little bit of John Matthew & Xhex thrown in.
Richard Reynolds for years, decades, has been a well-respected member of the glymera and head of household and self-imposed supporter of his mother and younger sister after the death of his stepfather. His sister, Bella, is now the shellan to a member of the brotherhood, Zsadist, but his mother still relies on his support to keep her in the wealthy lifestyle to which she is accustomed. He adores them both and has always taken on this responsibility willingly. He has a few secrets, however, and secrets can get expensive. Especially when you have a serious psychopathic monster blackmailer.
To keep up with these expenses, Richard aka Rehvenge aka The Reverend is the owner of the popular nightclub, ZeroSum, as well as being the local drug lord and pimp. To his credit he's kind to his girls and provides a safe environment for them, but he's still a pimp. I know, I know. As if being a drug dealer isn't bad enough.... He's a big, serious dude sporting a mohawk and amethyst-colored eyes. His reputation precedes him, and along with his entourage of security detail, mainly the "twin" Moors and Xhex, at his beck and call, he exudes the "run away!" vibe which usually keeps those with half a brain from messing with him. He is also half-sympath, which is a big no-no in the vampire world. That information has to be carefully hidden, because anyone who knows is required by vampire law to report sympaths who are then deported and sometimes tortured and killed at the sympath colony. Even worse to the aristocratic minds of the glymera is the damage it would cause to the reputation of their bloodline. They would be ruined socially ("Oh, the horror!") Rehv doesn't care about any of this for himself, but he has always been concerned for his mother and sister and so has been willing to go to extreme lengths to hide his sympath side.
Rehv has been struggling with his attempts to hide his sympath side from the world. He's having to inject more and more dopamine in order to keep his inner sociopath from coming out. Unfortunately, dopamine is not a street drug, so he has to get his ever-increasing supply from Dr. Havers. It is on one of these visits that it becomes apparent there is a mutual attraction between Rehv and Dr. Havers' nurse, Ehlena. They do reluctantly develop a relationship but it is fraught with a lot of problems mainly on Rehv's part because he doesn't want to ruin his chances by having Ehlena find out about how dark his life is (hello, sympath? monster blackmailer? drug lord? pimp?).
This book gets pretty exciting and interesting as we learn more about the sympaths and about Rehv's blackmailer, about the advances of the Omega, and the extent Rehv is willing to go to protect those he loves. At points it gets seriously Shelob nasty. hehe
This is a great book in the series. I'd say in the Top 3 for me.
Oh, BTW, even though the model on the cover of the book doesn't match Rehv's description, I don't care. I think I may frame the dust jacket and hang it on my wall. ; ) - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

This book was a little bit different than all the rest because it is mainly about someone who is NOT a member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I was always intrigued by Rehvenge’s character, and I enjoyed learning more about the Sympath colony. However, I could have done without the details of his sexual escapades with his HALF-SISTER. Ewwww! I realize that it wasn’t Rehv’s fault and that he was being blackmailed, but I didn’t like reading this part of the book, solely because he was related to the Princess. Too incestuous for me.
As with Zsadist and Vishous, Ward has a way for making us fall in love with these bad boys! Rehv is a hooker with a heart of gold (as well as pimp and drug lord), and only Ward could make us feel the way we do about Rehv. There is a reason why he does what he does, and he doesn’t do it for selfish reasons. I love the protector role that Rehv takes with his sister, Bella. As Rehv’s past unfolds, we see what a man of character he is and what lengths he has gone to in order to protect Bella and his mother. The scene towards the end with Rehv singing a lullaby to Nalla had me in tears!
I enjoyed learning more about the two shadows, Trez and iAm. They are absolutely committed to Rehvenge, and I like that. I hope we get to learn more about them!
Rehv falls for Ehlena, who is a nurse at Havers’ clinic. I loved everything about Ehlena, and it was not a surprise that she melted Rehv’s sympath side. I loved her “fall from grace” from the Glymera, which showed us how resilient and tough her character is. The intimate scenes between Rehv and Ehlena were totally hot! I am sure my face was flushed while I was listening, especially during their steamy phone sex during which Ehlena found a new use for her stockings! Ward has created another brilliant pairing in Rehv & Ehlena. I love them together!
I loved that Ward drew in a lot of the other members of the BDB into this book. There are so many sub-plots going on! Even Mary and Doc Jane resurface!
I enjoyed revisiting the relationship between Wrath and Beth, and I find that I like Wrath more now than I did in Dark Lover. His battle with himself over the loss of his sight was heart-breaking, and I loved seeing that vulnerability in him. Wrath’s relationship with Payne is interesting, and I can’t wait to see where that goes!
I loved delving further into John Matthew’s relationship with Xhex, but I hate how John Matthew changes during this book. I wish that Ward hadn’t turned him into such a cold-hearted bastard! I know he is hurting, but sheesh! He is taking it out on the whole world! I am glad that Tohr is finally getting his act together, even though it is "too little, too late" for John Matthew.
We learn more about Xhex and her ex-lover, Murhder, who was a member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Her shell, too, is chipping away and underneath all that tough exterior is a woman who is struggling to keep a lid on her emotions.
And let’s not forget Lash…he is turning into quite the antagonist! He is the villain that you love to hate.
Ward masterfully ties all the sub-plots together into a superb ending! And what a cliff-hanger!! I could hardly wait to start on the next one.
I love Ward’s sarcastic humour, and I was laughing out loud on a number of occasions throughout the book.
Wrath to Butch: “Put on your big-girl pants and deal.”
And the touching moments:
Wrath’s thoughts: “But every once in a while, from out of the blue, someone reaches the quiet place where you spend your private time and changes the way you see yourself. If you’re lucky it’s your mate…and the transformation reminds you once again that you are absolutely, positively with the right person: because what they say doesn’t touch you because of who they are to you, but because of the content of their message.”
Ahhhhhhhh, just melts the heart, doesn't it?
Jim Frangione, how do you do it? I want his job. I want to narrate steamy novels, LOL! I have said it before and I’ll say it again: Frangione *IS* the BDB! There can never be another narrator for this series! His smooth, sultry voice during those intimate scenes is the icing on the cake!
This the first instance in the series where I have noticed some technical issues with the recording. There are some long pauses, and I can hear at other points where there was noise in the background when Frangione was cued in. It also sounded like Frangione was shouting the chapter numbers, and I jumped nearly out of my skin each time. It seemed like the volume on the chapter headings was louder than the rest of the narration. Either that or his voice was more commanding. I also prefer when the chapter number is preceded by the word "Chapter". I believe that this is also the first time in this series where Frangione simply says "One" instead of "Chapter One." I much prefer the latter.
MY RATING: 4.5 stars! Highly recommended, and I know I’ll read it again! - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

This book focused more on Rehvenge, who I didn't care for in the other books, but I think that was the author's intent. Now I like him somewhat. His backstory was interesting, the stuff with the princess? disgusting. This got a little too raunchy for me, I wish she had toned down the sex and gave a little less detail to the other sexual activities, total gross-out for me. bleh It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't engrossing enough that I couldn't put it down. I feel sorry for Wrath, and there was some mention to his history that I couldn't make sense of, did I miss something? I must have skipped a book? I have the rest of the books in this series, but I'm not in any rush to get to them at the moment. I hate these topsy-turvy series...be good and stay good!!! arghhh...that is all. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Lover Avenged is story of Rehvenge the half sympath who is a drug dealer and Ehlane who is a nurse. A great story that has Rehv having his true identity revealed and getting held prisioner by his uncle. Ehlane must realize her true feelings and find the strength to save him. Wrath is also having some major eye issues. Lash's big secret comes out slowly but surely. - Calificación: 5 de 5 estrellas5/5

No stronger allies, no greater friends, no better fighters of honor could a king behold than these assembled afore me I'd been waiting for this book to come out! Bummer that it's only available in hardback at the moment - I like my stack of matching Brotherhood paperbacks!First of all - if you haven't read the Insider's Guide - I highly recommend you read it first. There's one tidbit in particular pertaining to Wrath which plays into Lover Avenged. You won't be lost without it, but it really adds to his whole story. And there's a lot of Wrath in this book! That was the biggest surprise about Lover Avenged - Wrath's story. Of course it centers around Rehvenge and Ehlena, but again, the ongoing plot lines are just as interesting. Tohr fans - just...YAY!Because the book is centered on Rehv, a half-symphath, we are given a glimpse into that part of Ward's world. Not so much lesser action in this book and almost no Scribe Virgin (though her appearance is...thought provoking). Rehv's loyalty is tested from the beginning, but I'd imagine you can guess how that turns out!As Rehv's right hand, Xhex plays a big roll in this book, so we get a fair amount of John Matthew (YAY), and by the end of LA I think you'll agree that JM's book must be next. I wonder if it will parallel one of the previous books...(but no spoilers, so I can't tell you which one!) We also get more about Trez and iAm - the Moors - and they're as interesting as 'the boys' (JM, Q, B).Surprisingly, this book has a quieter tone than the others, I think, probably because there's much less emphasis on the fighting aspect. Not that there's not violence (and sex - lots of that!), but it has a much different feel in Rehv's world. As for the war...Lash has changed the tone of the lesser side. More dangerous in some ways, a little easier to understand in others (weird, I know). He's no Mr. X, at least not yet. (Mr. X just creeped me out.)In many ways, the ending of LA was not as complete as the other books. Rehv and Ehlena are together in the end (not a spoiler - all the books end with the couple together - it's a romance!) but not with the 'here's how it's going to work' like at the end of Phury's, Z's, heck, any of the other books. There's more to Rehv and Ehlena's story - the question is whether we'll get it in the next book, or on the boards. All in all, LA was better than Lover Enshrined (though that one's grown on me a bit). Wouldn't be my pick for the best one of the series (I think that would still be Lover Revealed) but still 5 stars. - Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas4/5

Rhev has long been one of the more enigmatic fringe characters of Ward's BDB world and certainly not one of the most likeable. His heroine, Ehlena, is certainly a strong female character in a world dominated by warriors and killers and refreshingly non-blood thirsty. I liked the story about the two of them and certainly enjoyed the sub-story about Wrath coming into his own so long after we've finished his own tale in the first book of the series. My only major disappointment is that she chose not to continue the more personal look into the back story of Qhuinn and Blay that I enjoyed so much in the last book.
There is a lot about the characters/plot/ storytelling that rubs me the wrong way and although I do believe in redemption, there is just too much general enjoyment in bloody violence for my taste. That combined with some of the over the top dialog makes me wonder why I keep coming back, but there is no doubt that I must find some enjoyment in the tale because I keep looking forward to the next chapter of this engrossing series.
As we've gone along with the series the tales certainly have gotten grittier and darker but despite this and my general dislike of the "kill 'em all" attitude I will press on and will be reading "Lover Mine" as soon as I can get my hands on it.
