In 1734, Jacques Fourneaux, a trader who sold wines from Champagne, founded the wine company that would become Taittinger. At first, he sold still wines, but his business only really started to bubble when he began selling sparkling wines. The Fourneaux and Forest families joined forces at the turn of the 19th century, ushering in an era of growth at Champagne House that involved moving from their original premises at the Hôtel Le Vergeur to Demeure des Comtes de Champagne on Rue de Tambour.
