From Switzerland with love Delea A Marca
Un empresario y enólogo suizo adquirió hace años una finca de naranjos en tierras de Huelva. Los naranjos se convirtieron en viñedos y después en vinos modernos, de gran personalidad, que revolucionaron el panorama vinícola onubense. Todo ello gracias a una hermosa historia de amor y vino.
If he had gone just a few kilometres further down the road, Leopoldo Delea would have bought a property in Portugal, as the 18 hectares he purchased were on the limits of Villablanca, a town in western Huelva, 5 kilometres from the Atlantic and a stone’s throw from the Portuguese border. So why did a Swiss man come to be in this remote area in the province of Huelva in 1972? Because of a customer recommendation, that’s why. Back then, Leopoldo ran five restaurants in his hometown, the lovely resort of Locarno, in the Swiss canton of Tesino on the Italian border. He was an ambitious entrepreneur with an insatiable curiosity, who obviously was not satisfied with just his restaurants because he decided to travel to this far-flung province in Andalusia. He came, he saw, he purchased. He wound up adding 18 hectares of productive orange trees, over 2,000 km from his home, to his existing Swiss business.
This done, our Swiss man returned to Locarno to continue running his restaurants and to pursue his greatest passion and profession, which was winemaking.
Having purchased the orange grove in Huelva, he created Vini e Distillati Delea, a winery and distillery in Losone, also in the canton of Tesino, very close to his home. When he eventually moved to Huelva to live his dream, he left this company,
