Since the days of the Industrial Revolution, Pawtucket has been a beacon of opportunity -- opportunity for personal advancement and opportunities for our families to enjoy the quality of life we deserve.  Pawtucket is the city that embraced my family when we were forced to escape the violence in Colombia. The city whose public schools prepared me to pursue a degree in business from Bryant University and a masters in public administration from URI. The city that I have proudly served as a member of the Pawtucket School Committee and the Pawtucket City Council for the past several years.  From an early age, my parents taught me the value of hard work and integrity. They also taught me the importance of giving back. My father had a great career in Colombia and provided a good life for my family. I attended school there and dreamed of college and beyond. But all of that ended when he began receiving death threats. We were forced to leave everything behind and relocate abruptly to the U.S. This was a very difficult time for my family, but I worked hard to learn a new language and become an active member of my new hometown, Pawtucket.  I was inspired by Pawtucket’s long history of welcoming people from all over the world; people who built great futures and accomplished great things with hard work and dedication.  Pawtucket has remarkable resources and talent, but we also face significant challenges. Many of our neighbors struggle to make ends meet as good paying jobs have been replaced by low wage service jobs. I live right where I grew up -- around the corner from the world headquarters of Hasbro. I have seen first-hand how the loss of those jobs impacted my family and friends. The future of Memorial Hospital, a vital institution which for decades has provided hundreds of good jobs, remains in critical condition. And our schools need investments to ensure that our children are receiving the best possible education in buildings that aren’t falling apart.  Our state is at a crossroads. It’s time to push ahead with new ideas and new energy and make sure that no one is left behind. Pawtucket needs a new voice an experienced, energetic voice who will fight on your behalf every day with integrity and dedication. I believe I am that person, and I humbly ask for your support.  As an At-Large member of the City Council, I pushed to establish the city’s office of Economic Development and supported small business development. I have advocated for the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene. I have a track record of supporting investments in public education and fighting on behalf of Pawtucket residents. As an assistant vice president at Navigant Credit Union, I have worked closely with small businesses to help them succeed and grow, in turn growing the economy and creating much needed jobs. I want to bring these experiences and your voices to the State House, and I want to represent you with integrity and dedication.  Feel free to contact me at 401-228-4557 or SandrisCano@gmail.com with your ideas and your questions. I love Pawtucket and I will continue to work hard to ensure that our city has a great future ahead - for our children, our families and our businesses. With your support, I will bring my passion, energy and experience to the State Senate and I will fight on your behalf - day in and day out.<
