Her main academic interests are the final stages of the English standardisation process, codification and prescription. She has published widely from this perspective on the language of individual authors, such as Robert Lowth and Jane Austen (OUP, 2011 and 2014, respectively), and recently published Describing Prescriptivism: Usage Guides and Usage Problems in British and American English (Routledge, 2020). Her latest research project focuses on the multilingual nature of The Hague. She is a member of the Dutch Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).ver menos
