When not buried under reading assignments, she is an avid hiker, reads nonfiction for fun, and is rediscovering the joys of video games.
While she has been a practitioner of neopaganism, particularly animal magic, since the mid-1990s, she is currently focused on creating a personal neoshamanic path, therioshamanism. In the past she has also worked with various sorts of eclectic neopaganism, Chaos magic, and experimental magic.
Lupa's nonfiction writing covers a variety of topics. Her primary focus is animal magic; her first book, Fang and Fur, Blood and Bone: A Primal Guide to Animal Magic broke a number of conventions of material on totemism and other forms of animal magic. She followed it up with her most recent work, DIY Totemism: Your Personal Guide to Animal Magic. In between these two works she also published the groundbreaking A Field Guide to Otherkin. She is currently editing three anthologies as well: Talking About the Elephant: An Anthology of Neopagan Perspectives on Cultural Appropriation (November 2008); Engaging the Spirit World: Shamanism, Totemism and Other Animistic Practices (2009); and Digging Up the Ostrich's Head: Animal Sacrifice in Modern Pagan Practices (2010)ver menos
